"To ask why we need libraries at all, when there is so much information available elsewhere, is about as sensible as asking if roadmaps are necessary now that there are so very many roads." โ€” Jon Bing

About

Nessa is an adjunct librarian at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn and Joliet Junior College in Joliet, where she teaches information literacy and AI literacy to community college students. She earned her MLIS in 2022, in the thick of the pandemic, and is currently working toward a Master's in Instructional Technology at NIU. Her teaching leans on ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy, with an emphasis on active, constructivist learning โ€” she's happiest either running a classroom or working one-on-one with a student or instructor. She's especially proud of Chad Baht, the AI agent behind her project Behind the Chatbot, and of her banned books library programming. Curiosity and skepticism, not cynicism, are what she tries to model โ€” for her students and for herself.

Outside the library, Nessa is unapologetically extroverted, a Midwest traveler, and owned by three animals: Istanbul ("Stan"), a Maine Coon; Tabriz, a crabby tabby with opinions; and NOLA, a dog who is convinced she's a cat. She's a regular on the Wise Quacks trivia team, and always looking for an excuse to work a pun or a Dad joke into a lecture.
